Preview of iArt Spring Gallery

As many of you know I now have an iPhone art app which has not only became the #20 most popular web app in it's first week, but now has had over 2212 downloads! This is a revolving pocket gallery of my miniature paintings that will change bi-weekly and seasonally. Above is a little preview of tomorrow's Spring Gallery miniatures for your app. Below is the story of how all this exciting news came to be, (if you've already read this cool background bit, skim on through).

My new Twitter friend Dave Carpenter, who also lives in the beautiful Berkshires of Massachusetts and I had lunch together about a month ago. Over lunch Dave and I were talking about my art (which is predominately ACEOs-miniatures 3.5” x 2.5”). Suddenly his eyes lit up and he said, "an iPhone app!" Of course, these little paintings would be just perfect for viewing on an iPhone. So I hurried home and contacted my brother, Matthew Revenaugh, who is a computer programer (TheSoftWareMan), and before we knew it, a great little iPhone app was born.

Now your favorite Melody Lea Lamb ACEO's can travel with you, a quick pick me up as you navigate your day! There will be about 35 images that appear as a slide show on your iPhone. These 35 miniatures will change each week with tomorrow being the first full change over.

I am so thrilled to see the success of this little endeavor and the fact that its totally free makes me feel all "warm and fuzzy". Free is good!

More Work On Cat Miniature Art

As more snow falls on the Berkshire mountains of new England, I am adding layers of colored pencil to my miniature ACEO commission for my Twitter friend Dave Carpenter.

Steps preceding this one:

Added light washes of watercolor. Remember, this painting is the size of a baseball card (3.5 x 2.5").

Lots of pen and ink techniques.

More pen and ink...

This handsome cat is a rich blue gray color, very thick luxurious fur, and obviously the prince of the home. I've given him a throne of tapestry-paisley pillows and a soft background of warm yellows to contrast against his blue-gray fur (yet to be done).

In the image to your right I've included a penny to give you a sense of the paintings size. The mini piece is a surprise gift for one of Dave's friends.

Enjoy!

Mom Passed Last Night

My mother passed away last night surrounded by her children. Below is a poem I've been building in my mind the last few days, out on the snowy trails while I've been running with my dog and wrestling with the reality of my mother leaving this earth:

"My tears falling one by one, so bittersweet, each one filled with exquisite grief...only to sink back into the warm arms of Mother Earth."

Mom fell and broke her hip just over two years ago. My siblings and I have been taking turns caring for her so that she could stay in her little California home. I've flown out to California many times over the last year and each time I brought you along. I gathered some of the blog posts from my "shifts" with mom and have included them here. I am so proud of my family for the way we have surrounded mom with tender, patient, and loving care that allowed her to pass on in the home she bought as a single parent forty years ago!

I'm flying out in the morning to help sisters and brother make arrangements.

Below is mom and all her children, (we lost two of our siblings over the years)
...I'm the one holding the cat, of course! :)

Sisters love, hold, and dance my mom's way to the other side in her last few hours:

Thank you all for keeping me company on this journey.

Fairy Bookmark Art

Zoom

I designed a new bookmark for you yesterday from one of my miniature paintings. I use a computer graphics program to digitally dismantle the original art and then reassemble the piece to fit this bookmark format. Each bookmark is signed and dated and measures 2.25 inches by 7 inches. It also has a heavy protective plastic sleeve. They are printed from my Epson printer with Archival Ink on Archival Paper with a Matte finish. These little bookmarks are rated to last 98 years or 200 years if kept in your book. (That's a long time!) Below id the original ACEO (Art, Cards, Editions, and Originals) It is done in India ink and colored pencil.
