Chipmunk Miniature Painting Complete!

This afternoon I finished my latest miniature painting - ACEO. My goal with this piece was to capture a magical moment in nature from the perspective of a wee woodland creature like this Chipmunk. I wanted to bring you to a place where for a moment, you were only a few inches tall and the new spring Snowdrops towered above you. It's one of those secret places that exist just within reach if we are only to stop, sit down quietly in the woods (or our backyard) and look into the small world at our feet.
I am very pleased with the way this little painting turned out!

One More Step On New Miniature Painting

I worked a little more on my latest miniature (3.5 x 2.5") painting - ACEO this afternoon. The painting, which is the same size as a Baseball Trading Card, portrays a sweet little Chipmunk. There is a quote that I use often on Twitter by Michelangelo: "I saw the angel in the marble & carved until I set him free." I love this line, and it describes exactly how I feel envisioning a finished painting as I add layer after layer of pigment to find the image within.

The next stpe is my favorite part, when I add the many layers of colored pencil to create Mr. Chipmunk's soft fur.

Enjoy!

More Work On New Chipmunk Miniature Painting

As the spring rain trickled down today, and I reflected on the sweet weekend spent working in my garden, I worked a bit more on my latest miniature (3.5 x 2.5") painting - ACEO. This tiny painting (the same size as a Baseball card) depicts a wee little Chipmunk nestled among the leaf liter of a forest floor. I am inspired to capture the unfolding of Spring as seen from the perspective of this small woodland creature. I love how the moss in our New England woods, bursts into emerald green the moment the snow recedes in Spring. I'll save the process of building in layers of soft Chipmunk fur for the very last step because its my favorite part and is like the "desert" for my creative banquet.

Enjoy!

More On Miniature Art - Gifting From The Heart

This afternoon I worked a bit more on my newest miniature painting of a little Chipmunk on a quite woodland floor. My goal with this tiny painting is to capture a magical world. One that you might find if you were to sit down in a wooded glen, become very still and quiet, then look closely at the world at your feet.

I also created a new blog for you. From my experience recently on Twitter, I have found that the desire to give... a smile, a thank you, any small token of my gratitude is immensely rewarding and well received. It seems to me, that during a time when so many are struggling, the need to reach out and brighten someone's day has become essential. So, I created a blog from which one can quickly buy a small gift for giving. Introducing "Gifting From The Heart"!

Enjoy!

Chipmunk Miniature Painting Continues

This afternoon I worked in the background for my latest miniature (3.5 x 2.5") painting - ACEO. The mediums used thus far are India ink, colored pencil and acrylic wash. When I am out jogging most mornings, I often look out at the woods on either side of my country road. I think about the tiny world that exists among the leaves and grasses of the forest floor. In this little painting I want to capture that world from the perspective of a wee little woodland creature like this Chipmunk.

The next step on my little painting is to add layer after layer of colored pencil. Stay tuned for more of the WIP (work in progress) of Spring Chipmunk.

More On New Miniature Art ACEO Chipmunk

Spring continues to unfold here in the beautiful Beautiful Berkshires of New England!

This afternoon, (with honey-golden sunshine streaming into my quiet studio) I worked out the beginning ink drawing for my latest ACEO. The painting will show a little Chipmunk, nibbling on his lunch, hidden in the grass and leaf litter of a forest floor. Tiny white Snow-bells will surround him and emerald green moss (the kind one finds in the deep woods), will be his perch

I love sharing the creative process with you here and with my friends on Twitter. So stay tuned as I post each step of the creative process.

Enjoy this beautiful season!

New Miniature Art - Spring Chipmunk

Spring has finally arrived here in the Beautiful Berkshires of New England! Each morning that I'm out running on the country roads, I'm smitten with a delicate symphony of sweet colors.

After the long cold winter here, every little splash of pastel violet from the Crocus blossoms and sunny yellow of Tulips makes my heart sing. I have a new miniature painting on the drawing board that I hope will convey my inspiration. Above is a Thumbnail (a quick sketch that an artist uses to work out ideas) of my newest ACEO. This will be a little Chipmunk nestled down in the grasses of a forest floor with the tiny white Snow-bells just popping up after the snow has receded.

I love sharing the creative process with you here and with my friends on Twitter. So stay tuned as I post each step of the creative process.

Enjoy this glorious season wherever you are!
