Tiny Art - Spring Dreams

As Winter begins to (hopefully) wind down here in the Berkshire Mountains, I am dreaming of early Spring. This is a tiny work of art I recently created that embraces the delicate colors and delight of Spring. I'm including a step by step of this little ACEO for you to enjoy. What is an ACEO? The unique little art form known as ACEO (Art Cards Editions and Originals) is a small work of art done in the standard trading card size of just 3.5 inches by 2.5 inches. The ACEO genre was born on online and is enjoying a great success among artists and collectors. This week I'm painting "Spring Crocus and Mouse". Enjoy this work in progress-step by step of my miniature art!
The very first step is an India ink drawing on the 3.5" by 2.5" board.

Step two is an India ink wash background.

Next I add a little colored pencil over the ink wash in this new miniature (2.5" by 3.5") painting.

Then I begin to add layers of colored pencil to the slender Crocus leaves....

Here in step five, I start on the Crocus blossoms using heavy layers of Prismacolor pencil.

3-28: I got a little further on my new miniature painting - ACEO "Spring Crocus and Mouse" today. This is a colored pencil and India ink piece, 2.5" by 3.5".

4-1: Nearly done with the flowers, leaves and background of my newest miniature painting- ACEO. The fur on little mouse will be the most fun!

Below I am starting to layer colored pencil for the little mouse's fur.
Nearly done! The next step is adding detail to little mouse's fur.

Finished!!
India ink, colored pencil and some white acrylic.
2.5" by 3.5"

Beautiful little ACEO Melody!

It's so fun to see how fellow artists create some of their art!
